Hey!
My name is Emily Helps, im 22 and i’m living with my friend in the Bristol area.
A short background on me :
I have 2 siblings, an older brother (31) and an older sister (29), my parents divorced when i was just 10. My dad is now happily married in wales with his family and my mum is happy with her new partner – I’ll go deeper into my family another time.
At the age of 12 i fell ill, i was in and out of hospital on multiple occasions and was then diagnosed with acute appendicitis – the op took hours and they had even found gangrene EW!
I was then diagnosed with panic attacks, anxiety and depression at the age of 15 which affected me a lot! At age 17 i went into hospital for a throat abscess caused from tonsillitis. They had to put a needle down my throat and extract the puss… lovely i know haha! This was when my gut problems first started. I would have chronic bloating, unbearable pain in my abdomen, extreme fatigue, eczema, anxiety, acid reflux to where i couldn’t keep food down, body dysmorphia, eating disorders and so on.
For the past 7 years i have been tested for absolutely EVERYTHING! Blood tests, stool tests, urine samples, internal scans, ultrasounds, multiple doctor appointments, i even spoke to a nutritionist… but nothing.
I have tried all the diets you can think of, low fodmap, keto, veggie, gluten free, dairy free, but still to this day i am yet to discover what the problem is.
I probably took antibiotics about 3-4 times a year from the age of 10, thats crazy!!
Other medications and supplements I’ve tried during the past 10 years –
Bloating, chronic pain
- Amitriptyline
- Buscopan
- Senekot
Hormones
- The pill
- Norethisterone
Nutritionist (supplements)
- Similase
- Magnesium
- Omega 3
- Bitters and ginger
- Multi nutrients
- Vitamin D
- Iron
- BioAcidophilus
- BioKult
- Milk thistle
- GI complex
- Eradicidin Forte
- Berberine + grapefruit seed tablets
So that leads me to now, im now a personal trainer who absolutely adores what they do! Found a love for health and fitness and would love to make an impact and help others going through similar struggles!
I am yet to diagnose what the real problem is to all my health issues, but i thought i would share the progress 🙂
