(As well as people who have a little gym anxiety)
1. Plan your workouts
Planning is essential for newbies as well as advanced. Knowing what you’re doing that day/week will make it less daunting and intimidating as well as making it easier for you to track your progress (weight, reps, set progression). Alternatively get yourself an online coach to provide you with a program tailored to you and your goals. Or even a personal trainer, to ensure you are performing with great form, support you and keep you accountable.
2. Visit during the quieter hours
(9am-4pm for most gyms)
The quieter environment will allow you to get to know where all the equipment is without the pressure of others. When you first start training, it’s easy to feel like everyone is watching and judging your every move. However, the reality is that no one really cares!
3. Don’t put pressure on yourself
Take it day by day. It does not come all at once so don’t beat yourself up about having a crappy day at the gym or eating a big choccy bar. Consistency is key so as long as you keep turning up and putting in the effort, you will see results.
4. Form before weight
This is so so important! Make sure you focus on your form with each exercise to prevent injury and allow for optimum training. It’s easy to want to lift heavy but please, please correct your form.
5. Don’t compare yourself to others
Not everyone in the gym (or on your Instagram feed) is at the same point in their journey as you are and that’s okay. Focus on you!!
